Mexico is home to an enormous amount of marijuana and cocaine, and is still rising everyday. The war on drugs started in Columbia with the drug violence ,and illegal trafficking of drugs to the U.S and Mexico. It started much of a war and has been since the mid 1970's . The U.S took a large role to end the Colombian Drug war . Between 2000 and 2008 the U.S spent roughly 6 billion to help Columbia and support their ''PLAN COLUMBIA'' started by Columbia's president. Columbia's Drug trafficking has lessened in great amount in the major cities, drug trafficking is now more pushed to the rural areas. In Mexico The drug war is quite different than the one in Columbia, Drug Traffickers in Mexico are not fighting over production like Columbia they are simply fighting and murdering over control of smuggling Routes into the U.S Mexicans are smuggling such drugs, Marijuana ,Narcotics, and Meth and Columbia's very own cocaine. In 2006, Mexico's newly elected President Calderon Felipe came in eager to stop the War on Drugs, he brought in armed forces to end the highly ranked cartels, This was the start to the rise of violence.(DRUG WAR CHRONICLE #623) Cartels began murdering children, innocent people, and even journalist. Such extremes , traffickers have been stuffing bodies with drugs and sending them over the border, and chopping off heads. The Drug war has killed over 17000 people, in 2009 alone there were 8,000 deaths. Arizona was having so many issues with the drug war they had an increase in drug affiliated kid-nappings and murders, they recently passed a law on Illegal Immigration , being able to stop any suspicious foreigner that looks of descent of Mexico.
These Cartels are not only striking in Mexico their wave of violence is streaming through our major cities and murdering innocent U.S civilians. We the U.S have been Supportive of Mexico to stop these Cartels and violence but nothing will change until people stop doing drugs. When there is a demand for drugs , someone will supply them. Its a simple concept, if we legalize Marijuana then that will take 70% away from these drug cartels. And once these drug traffickers begin to loose, that is when we will become safer. Drugs will be in our lives forever and its unfortunate people feel they need to take them, but this will be a war forever until we stop the demand for these illegal drugs. I think Marijuana should be legalized, especially since alcohol and cigarettes are. Narcotics and methamphetamine should stay illegal. To stop these cartels we should bring our army and take out all major cartels and imprison them, we need to take action to keep the U.S safe. Mexico has become one of the most dangerous places in the world, because the demand of taking control, money, drugs and power.
Mexican Cartels are armed with the same machinery as their mexican soilders.
